Hormones and Body-Mind Health

Navigating Hormones, Peri and Menopausal Shifts In Body And Mind

Hormones, perimenopause, menopause, overwhelm, anxiety, and stress—what a world

Do you ever have those days where nothing seems to go right? Nothing seems to come together, nothing sits well. Do you ever wonder if the universe is telling you something? Well, maybe it’s way more straightforward than that. Maybe it’s just your good old hormones.

Did you know that a study in America showed that more women leave their husbands when they’re going through the menopausal years.

Did you also know that stress makes your hormone cycle erratic, and an erratic hormone cycle makes you feel more anxious and stressed, so then you mix the perimenopause or the menopause, and what do you have? A whole world of upside down emotions.

Moods of a normal cycle:

Week One: Oestrogen is low, and then it starts to rise. As it does, you become sharper and more focused. It’s time to get stuff done.

Week Two: Feeling bouncy, feeling superhuman, but also a little bit more anxious.

Week Four: Post ovulation, oestrogen dips progesterone rises

Week Four: Oestrogen, progesterone, and testosterone plummet and anxiety, stress and low moods kick in. Sleep becomes a nightmare, and generally it’s not the week to get stuff done.

Then perimenopause happens…

Things start to change…

A little more time between each of the weeks. The hormones fluctuate at different times as you transition through the months or years, leading to ovulation completely stopping. Symptoms include hot flushes, which make you miserable and you could cry, sweating, disturbed sleep, changes in mood, migraines, forgetfulness, changes in libido, vaginal dryness, infertility, and increased body fat. Then, with less oestrogen, your anxiety can rise tenfold, your relationships change because you find yourself less attracted to your mate, everything becomes more stressful, and “irritable” is your middle name. Overwhelm is the story of your days.

Finally Menopause…Your periods stop altogether. Some people will have fewer symptoms, but some will continue.

If you’re experiencing these, just know you are not alone

So what can you do? Here are my TOP TIPS for dealing with hormonal fallout.

✨Banish the overwhelm. The “CONTROL” list is a great way to start. Make a list with 2 columns and write at the top “in my control” and “out of my control,” then fill it out and forget the “out of my control” list.

✨Track your cycle as best you can. You might not get it exactly, but at least understand the basics, and then you can judge your mood accordingly and understand if you’re feeling a bit off.

✨Exercise but know the weeks that are best for each type of exercise. The weeks leading up to your period can be harder in the gym, so be kind to yourself. Learn how to exercise to suit you.

✨Watch your diet but again know which weeks are best to diet and best to be free. Again, the weeks can be different in weight gain. Learn what suits you, and also learn what foods make you feel good and nourish your soul.

✨Drink more water. This is easy. Water helps EVERYTHING. Blood pressure, skin condition, digestion, sleeping, muscle health, mood, you name it, water helps it.

✨Find your sleep/wake cycle and become the queen of sleeping. The cycle is important, but so is creating healthy sleep.

✨Love yourself. And finally, accept that you are an AMAZING woman and you will get through these years.

If you’re doing all of these things and still struggling, then some natural hormonal supplements can help. I’m a firm believer that supplements must be an addon to living the healthiest life you can, so get started with these top tips first.
